To obtain reliable data, it is recommended to use Alibaba Cloud's own monitoring (CloudMonitor), SLA reports and third-party testing tools (ping, iperf, TRaceroute, BGP test platform) at the same time. Deploying probes within the Japan region can provide intuitive data on local RTT (typically 1–20ms) and packet loss rate (<0.1% in most periods); accessing from domestic or other regions can observe cross-border RTT (usually 80–200ms, depending on the interconnection link and operator). Combined with application monitoring on the business side (such as game frame rate and video freeze rate), it can more intuitively reflect the user experience.

For real-time multiplayer games, give priority to instances with high network performance and stable latency (such as high network card bandwidth, enhanced network instances), and perform load balancing and session affinity in multiple availability zones in Japan. For video on demand/live broadcast, select high-bandwidth instances based on traffic and concurrency and combine object storage (OSS) and CDN. General recommendations: For games, use a medium-to-high-performance CPU + low-latency network; for videos, use high bandwidth, strong I/O, and stable outflow.

Evaluation points include: end-to-end delay distribution, packet loss and retransmission rate, bandwidth jitter, CDN hit rate and return-to-origin pressure. The actual practice is to simulate typical business traffic (game heartbeat, action packets, video segment requests), combined with Alibaba Cloud CDN's node distribution and back-source link optimization strategy. According to the case, by properly configuring the edge caching strategy and return-to-origin flow limiting, the CDN hit rate can be increased to 90%+, which can significantly reduce the origin site pressure and return packet delay.

The main advantages are reflected in regional deployment and ecological capabilities: First, the local network optimization, ISP docking and multi-availability zone support of the Japanese computer room are conducive to reducing the delay of local players; second, Alibaba Cloud's mature CDN, OSS and audio and video middleware (such as real-time communication RTC, transcoding services) can be quickly integrated; third, the business in China has cross-border links and compliance support, making it easy to serve local Japanese and other users in the Asia-Pacific at the same time.

Cost depends on instance size, bandwidth billing, and CDN/storage usage. General strategy: maintain basic instances and the lowest bandwidth during off-peak periods, and rely on CDN cache to handle the main outbound traffic; during peak periods, use Auto Scaling to trigger capacity expansion based on traffic or CPU/number of connections, and use elastic public network bandwidth to expand on-demand to reduce idle costs. Reserved instances or annual and monthly subscriptions can save 20–40% of costs in a stable business.

Case 1 (online game): A medium-sized mobile game deployed hosts in Tokyo and Osaka, used enhanced network instances and connected to Alibaba Cloud global acceleration. The measured local RTT median was ~12ms, P95 ~28ms, and the average monthly packet loss was <0.05%. Player retention rate and online stability were significantly improved. Case 2 (video live broadcast): A live broadcast platform adopts Japanese OSS+CDN architecture. The first playback buffer time is reduced from 3.2s to 1.0s. CDN return traffic is reduced by 70%. It can still maintain a low lag rate during high concurrent live broadcast peaks. The above cases illustrate that through reasonable selection and architecture optimization, Alibaba Cloud Japan Cloud Server can meet the needs of game business and video business for low latency, high bandwidth and elastic expansion.
